New Yorkers

our neurons grow
yet no one knows
the way we feel inside
our brains are sore
our hearts are poor
but we don't realize
the price we pay
this cheese-rat maze
brings raging overdoses
our noses swift and dexterous
our eyes and souls are ptosis
we judge the cat
we spite the dog
we scowl at kind old ladies
we dance with sin
we judge our kin
we justify the shaming
we tread the road
that is less used
we wish not to encounter
society's real gems and mankinds best
to us their fools and flounder.
